The colour of Citrine varies from pale lemon to deep orange, yellow or brownish yellow. The colour of Citrine is generally a result of iron impurities in the crystal structure. The most valuable Citrine is rich in colour with few or no blemishes.
The only other naturally occurring gemstone that resembles citrine is Amber, but it does not show the same brilliance and fire as citrine. In fact, amber is not even a true mineral but fossilized tree resin!
Citrine has been used as an ornament since ancient times. It was used by the Incas as far back as 1550 BC as well as by the Aztecs who made it into beads and necklaces that were used in ceremonies and rituals.
Citrine has been considered one of the Four Stones of Success since antiquity – along with amethyst, topaz and ruby – because they are believed to attract abundance, prosperity and good luck.
