Peonies

Peonies are the appropriate flower symbol for the 12th Wedding Anniversary.

The peony is a flowering plant that has been cultivated since ancient times. The Chinese have grown them for more than 5,000 years. They are native to China, Japan, Korea and India. The peony was introduced into Europe in the 16th century. Peonies have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries and are known for their many health benefits.

The peony is considered to be one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. It has five petals that form a cup shape with a centre bud called a button. The flowers come in many colours including white, pink and red with some varieties having multiple colours on one bloom or even two different coloured blooms growing from one plant!
