Nasturtium
Nasturtium is the appropriate flower symbol for the 40th Wedding Anniversary.
The nasturtium plant has very pretty flowers that come in many colours, and they are easy to grow. This makes them an ideal gift for a 40th anniversary. The nasturtium flower can be used to make all sorts of crafts, including dried flower arrangements and bouquets. You can also make an edible arrangement using nasturtiums as part of the centrepiece on your table for the party.
Nasturtiums are one of the most popular edible flowers, with their peppery flavour and crunchy texture. They can be added to salads or used as a garnish. These flowers are also known as watercress, Indian cress, and garden cress.
The nasturtium plant is native to South America but has been cultivated in Europe for centuries. The plant grows best in full sun and moist soil that has been enriched with compost or manure.
The nasturtium plant produces beautiful yellow, orange and red flowers that bloom from spring through to the end of autumn. The leaves are long and oval-shaped with serrated edges. They grow opposite each other on the stem and have a peppery taste similar to watercress or arugula.
In addition to its culinary uses, nasturtiums are also used in herbal medicine for their astringent qualities and high vitamin content — especially vitamin C which helps boost immunity against colds and flu as well as other infections
